After being disappointed going downstream, I was encouraged by the look of the creek upstream of the bridge. Whereas downstream had been narrow and tight with plenty of obstructions, upstream it was wide and open as it ran alongside several fields. I accidentially "discovered" that the fence was electrified and resolved to remember that as I moved upstream.
Pools, in addition to being wide, were also deeper than downstream. Sadly, I continued to catch fallfish until I switched to a green woolly bugger and began to flip it into a deeper pool. With a dramatic shock, my rod bent down and a 14 inch rainbow flashed in the murky water. I struggled to get in hand, but after 30 seconds of action, he did an expert hands-free release and disappeared back below the surface.
At least there are trout here! Even though it was mid-September, at least one massive beast had found a way to survive the summer heat. Unfortunately, that was to be the last luck I had. I continued to fish my way upstream another half mile to the boundary near the school - leaving the final upstream section for another day.
Bottom Line: This is a nice section of stream. It's the poor man's Rose River Farm - the inexpensive $5 pass opens the door for a full day of fishing in a pleasant environment.
Getting There: From I-81, take exit 243 onto US 11 west. Turn left at S Main Street and follow it for 0.7 miles to turn right on Corporate Dr. Turn right on VA 701 (Pike Church Road) followed by a left on Mosby Road to stay on VA 701. Turn left on VA 42S followed by a right on Mason Street. Mason is VA 257 and turns into Ottobine Road. Follow it to the intersection with VA 613. The Ottobine Country Store is on the right.

Remember to refer to my rating explanations - these are based on what I look for - so RED for Physical Fitness translates to easy physically - you do not need to be in shape to fish this section. I prefer terrain that is tough to get into and out of.
