Bass Pro Spring Fling

I wanted to bang out a quick note in case your Bass Pro Shop is having its spring event in the coming weeks.  I dropped my wife at her sister's house in Maryland and wandered over to the Bass Pro Shop at Arundel Mills this last Saturday.  I was drawn in by the seminars they were having every hour on the half hour - and wanted to talk to some real pros about the errors of my way.  What a great time!

The seminars were super!  I learned the right way to drop shot, discovered that my retrieve was much too fast, was exposed to the secret of the 'shaky jig' and got to chat with the representatives from several of the major manufacturers.

The key lesson was that I am too impatient - always wanting to get to the next cast, the next fish.  I learned that, with plastics, you need to throw it out there and let it sit, slowly working it back to the boat.  Up in Maine, we were told to reel three times and hesitate - reel three times and hestate.  While that worked great with they type of grub, water, and fish up there - it has been less than successful down here.  It will be 71 here next weekend - I'm on the water - been driving my wife so crazy that she told me to go to the range twice this last weekend to shoot my .45 and target rifle.

The shaky jig sounds interesting - I will give it a try as well.  Here's the deal on that.  You get a normal jig and just hook it texas style onto your favorite color worm or other plastic.  Throw it out and then let it sink all the way to the bottom.  Once there, give the rod a twitch - it will cause the worm to wiggle.  Since it is nose down as a result of the jig head, it will appear that it is trying to eat/dig/whatever off the bottom and a bass will come nail it.

The Pros who gave the demo/seminars made this look easy.  They fished in the big acquarium there at the shop and the fish actually hit their lures as they worked the different presentations.  Amazing.

GO to this if your store has not had it yet.   I spent 5 hours in the store at one of the major malls on the East Coast - never left the store - attended three seminars - had a great time!!!
